Day 46/365 ~ Stereotypes Need To Be Discarded (by Amanda Mabel)

Stop stereotyping. We do it automatically. Many of us can’t help it. We look at somebody and we automatically classify them in a specific category. Our innate, first impression prejudice immediately acts a barrier between getting to know the real person inside. And that’s where you’re missing out.You can look at a person whichever way you want. You can choose to forget their existence, accept them into your close circle, create an enemy out of them, or watch them from afar wishing you were them. But just remember, when you stereotype..You are being stereotyped at the same time. And do you really want someone else to misunderstand you at first glance without even knowing you or speaking a word to you? Wouldn’t it be so ironic if you lost a chance to gain a friend, just because you classified them as someone ‘different’. Appearances aren’t everything.

I agree with everything this post entails.

vogue australia caused some controversy (both positive and negative) by including a 10-page editorial of plus-sized models. according to fashionologie, this is the first time in its 52-year history that the magazine has ever featured a model of above-average size. one wouldn’t think that [in 2011] this would be ground-breaking, but it is.
i would love to commend vogue australia, but what took it so long? personally, i prefer looking at a curvy shape, and plus-sized models exude a sexiness and comfort about their bodies that you just don’t get from the brooding human hangers of their thinner counterparts. to see this editorial in-person, the september issue is on stands now.
